Management Tools

Maintenance

Maintenance is a sensitive area in the management of water supply and wastewater drainage and treatment systems. The sector places great emphasis on the modernisation of maintenance and has adopted the best practices, leading to the best cost-effective solutions. AGS has worked together with software development partners, and is actively involved throughout the implementation and monitoring processes. The solution now used at AGS meets the infrastructure management requirements for water and wastewater treatment systems.

A computerised maintenance management ensures:

  • Equipment stocktaking
  • Planning the maintenance for every type of equipment
  • Records of intervention works, measurements, and test results
  • Monitoring of malfunctions
  • Provision of indicator reports

The solution adopted by most operation and maintenance services (because it includes 3 modules - desktop, mobile, and web ) allows the maintenance manager:

  • to manage the assets in real time, as the facilities record the daily activities through work order management;
  • to plan the works and check their progress, and access any desktop/tablet/telephone platform.

Process Control

As a result of the AGS operational experience in managing this kind of infrastructures (water and wastewater treatment plants, and pumping stations) and of extensive experimental work in pilot projects, AGS now has a work tool, WWARP – Process Control, specifically designed for monitoring the procedures in facilities, essential for supporting decision making.

The following are some of its functionalities:

  • Management and control of laboratory work;
  • Centralised management of analytical results;
  • Analysis of historical data per facility and sampling point;
  • Automatic verification of legal compliance;
  • Statistical analysis;
  • Automatic release of dynamic reports;
  • Automatic release of analytical bulletins.

Remote Management

Given the number and geographical spread of water supply facilities operated by AGS in the municipality of Bragança, a remote management system was implemented to represent, in a simple way, the overall state of the system, showing all the facilities being monitored and any alarm situation, in particular malfunctions, levels, spillovers, among others.

The main features of the system facilitate the management of this kind of facilities:

  • Online check of the flow and level of each reservoir;
  • Verification of consumptions per time interval;
  • GPRS communication (data transmission);
  • Data logs for each reservoir, at 15 min intervals;
  • Text message sent when minimum levels are reached, or in the event of excessive consumption.
